As part of a top-tier technological research university, the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute fosters the interdisciplinary collaboration needed to address the complex and urgent challenges of today’s world.

HASS is home to the Department of ArtsEconomicsCognitive ScienceCommunication and Media, and Science and Technology Studies, along with an award-winning program in Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences. Here, students can pursue a variety of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degree programs that shape socially conscious, responsible, and creative global leaders.

As part of a highly creative research community, HASS students work alongside scientists, engineers, architects, business professionals, and world-renowned faculty members to explore the social and cultural aspects of today’s global challenges in order to find innovative and sustainable solutions.

HASS programs, intentionally designed to accommodate dual majoring, allow students to bring fresh perspectives to other areas of study and teach them to think critically about the ethical and social implications of rising technologies. 

Active change agents, HASS students graduate ready to make an impact in a wide variety of sectors, including health care, information technology, education, and government.

HASS alumni have gone on to work for companies such as Amazon, Google, IBM, Hasbro, and DreamWorks Animation, to name a few.
