Rzewski Panel: Politics, Music and Social Change

March 16, 2004 4:00 PM - 6:00 AM

Sage Hall 5711 The power of music to affect "the order of the world" - politics, power, social structures - has a long and rich intellectual history. As moderator Michael Century will examine some of this background - from Plato to Rousseau to Adorno, Dylan and Rage Against the Machine. Century will place Rzewski at the center of this dialogue, as a "classical" artist, whose work addresses pop or mass audiences but to smaller audiences for "high art" concert music. Panelists include Frederic Rzewski, and distinguished RPI faculty Langdon Winner, and Igor Vamos.
