Gikas A. Hardouvelis is Chief Economist and Director of Research at Eurobank EFG and Professor of Finance and Economics at the University of Piraeus, Greece. He is also Research Fellow at CEPR, London, and Chairman of the Academic Council of the Hellenic Banks Association. He holds B.A and M.Sc. degrees in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Economics from U.C. Berkeley. Previously, he has taught at Barnard College, Columbia University, and Rutgers University. He was Director of the Economic Office of the Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis (2000-2004) and Chief Economist at the National Bank of Greece (1996-2000).
