Title:  Workflow-based Objects for Government Data

 Abstract:

In the last years, government transparency and accountability has emerged as an important issue. Different organizations have raised the question that citizen should be able to access government data for different purposes, being transparency one of them. Is in this context that a number of initiatives related to Open Government Data have appeared in several countries and at different levels, releasing a tremendous amount of datasets related to environment, budgets, and more. One of the problems we have focused in the last years in Tetherless World Constellation is how to make these datasets interoperable using standard formats and create demos that shows what can be done with this available data. In this talk I will show that having data available is insufficient to achieve the desired transparency and accountability and I will propose a way to close the gap between data and citizens, through the use of semantic and workflow technologies.

Title:  Perception of object motion by the active observer.

Abstract:

Recent experiments comparing perception by active and stationary observers have extended our understanding of the relationship between perception and action. In these studies, active and stationary observers report distinct perceptions despite being given the same visual stimuli.  The present study considers this phenomenon from a novel perspective. Subjects were adapted to different sensori-motor relationships in a virtual reality environment and required to make judgments about the motion of objects while walking in the virtual environment. We found that, under different states of sensori-motor adaptation, active observers can perceive different object motion based on the same visual stimuli and similar object motion based on different visual stimuli
