Sage 3704

April 10, 2017 12:00 PM - 1:50 PM

Dr. Janell Hobson (Associate Professor of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies - SUNY Albany) will discuss the historical, racial, and political contexts surrounding the landmark Columbian Exposition World's Fair held in Chicago in 1893. Hegemonic representations of race at the fair will be presented, as well as multiple forms of resistance mounted in response to the fair. Dr. Hobson's unique interdisciplinary perspective as a scholar of both race and gender will enrich this presentation.
