NESTS 2016 - “Making Do: Muddling Through to Dissertation”

http://nests2016.weebly.com/

Call For Proposals: Last year’s meeting of the Society for the Social Studies of Science (4S) initiated an era of “making” for the field. The conference in Denver had a brand new “making and doing” component that showcased new kinds of work and encouraged new presentation formats. In keeping with this expanded notion of the ‘academic presentation', the graduate students at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Science & Technology Studies department invite their comrades to join them for two days of presentations, making, and doing, March 12-13th, in the Russell Sage Labs on the RPI campus. In keeping with the tradition of grad conferences in years past, this conference is meant to provide a fresh set of friendly eyes on works in progress.

We welcome 300 word proposals for projects of all sorts, ranging from dissertation projects and classic talks to interdisciplinary workshops and roundtables. Proposals should detail both the content and style of your presentation. Hands-on workshops will be limited to half an hour and presentations to approximately fifteen minutes. Our undergraduate design studio will be available for the weekend, which is a great space for group projects with break out rooms. Minimal supplies will be offered on site. Free housing with local grads is also available on a first come first served basis.

Please submit your proposals on the NESTS 2016 website or directly to nestsgrad@gmail.com by February 29th. We look forward to seeing you!
