Romesh K. Diwan Memorial Lecture

Sage 5711

October 22, 2015 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

The Department of Economics is pleased to announce that Bruce Sacerdote, Richard S. Braddock 1963 Professor of Economics, Dartmouth College, will deliver this year's Romesh K. Diwan Memorial Lecture on October 22 at 2:00 pm in Sage Labs room 5711.

Dr. Sacerdote's research interests include an array of public policy issues, and his work has been referenced and quoted in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Forbes, Business Week, and in the best-selling book Freakonomics
The lecture is named for Romesh K. Diwan, Professor of Economics from 1968–2002. Over his long career, Dr. Diwan served as Director of the Graduate Program in Economics and as Chairman of the Department.  He is remembered as a superb econometrician (a quantitative economist using statistics and mathematics to address empirical issues) and for his work in applying technical economic  principles to the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, thus creating an entirely new sub-area within economics known as Gandhian Economics. Dr. Diwan was the author of 150 papers and five books, and supervised approximately 40 Ph.D. students during his tenure at Rensselaer.
