Arts Professor Caren Canier to Exhibit in Juried Show at Prince Street Gallery, NYC

Prince Street Gallery, 530 West 25th Street, 4th floor in New York City

January 28, 2014 12:00 AM - February 22, 2014

Arts Professor Caren Canier will exhibit "West Hall III" in the Prince Street Gallery 6th National Juried Show, 530 West 25th Street, 4th floor in New York City from January 28-February 22.  The exhibition was juried by painter Lois Dodd.    "West Hall III" is one of a series of seven mixed media paintings based on collaged views of West Hall and the RPI campus, painted in in 2011.  According to Canier, "During the period in which I served as Acting Head of the Arts Department at RPI, spending so much time and energy focused on West Hall and it’s current inhabitants, I became engrossed in a vision of the New York State landscape that incorporates memories from the past with features of the modern context.  I called upon the sculpture of early 20th century sculptor Elie Nadelman and the photographs of 19th century photographer Eadweard Muybridge to evoke a sense of the people who might have inhabited the building and landscape at other times in its history.
