Nathan Freier (LL&C) and Selma Sabanovic (STS) will be discussing a number of areas within the field of human-robot interaction (HRI) that stir debate and pose social and moral challenges to designers and researchers.

The topics covered will include (1) the role of culture in human-robot interaction, (2) children's development in the context of interactions with robotic technologies, (3) social robots as assistive technologies for vulnerable populations, and (4) robots in the military.

We hope this talk will communicate some of the key social challenges faced in the field of HRI and promote thoughts about the social responsibility of designers and researchers.

The colloquium will be available online via a live video feed.
