Poetry Reading by Julie Gutmann

Julie Gutmann is the author of numerous works of poetry, including the chapbook "Briefly a Horse," several translations from the Italian which have appeared in Italian poetry magazines, and a study of Italian culture, Life in an Italian Town (London 1978). She is currently at work on a collection of her poetry, Never Quite Home. Gutmann teaches creative writing at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where she directs the First Year Studies Program in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and holds a faculty appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor of Language, Literature and Communications. She received her doctorate from the State University of New York at Albany, with concentrations in composition, creative writing and university pedagogy.

Dr. Gutmann considers herself a long time resident of both the Capital District and of Florence, Italy, where she lived and worked for many years. She has had a long-standing relationship with the College of Saint Rose, where she has taught part-time in the Women's Studies, Religious Studies, and English programs. Dr. Gutmann helped to start the Women's Studies Awards at Saint Rose in 1992. Her reading will follow the announcement of the Women's Studies Awards winners for 2003.
