Dean's Office

The School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS) is administered by an acting academic dean, Wayne D. Gray, Ph.D. , with associate deans, Lee Odell, Ph.D. , for undergraduate programs and curriculum initiatives, and Wayne D. Gray, Ph.D. , for graduate programs and research initiatives.  The dean and associate deans serve in dual roles as administrators of school-wide academic and organizational business, and as practicing faculty teaching classes and undertaking research within their individual scholarly disciplines.

Completing the administrative leadership of HASS are the heads of the five departments: Kathy High, Arts ; Selmer Bringsjord, Ph.D. , Cognitive Science; James Adams, Ph.D. , Economics; Cheryl Geisler, Ph.D. , Language, Literature, and Communication; and Sharon Anderson-Gold, Ph.D. , Science and Technology Studies who, with the dean, associate deans, and the HASS faculty ombudsperson, Michael Kalsher, Ph.D. , comprise the HASS executive committee.

Each of the school's departments is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum for the academic degree programs in the cluster of academic disciplines that fall within their department.  And each is ably assisted by a staff  that supports it's faculty, students, and curriculum.  So, too, is the Office of the Dean of HASS staffed to assist in areas of budget and administration, program development, students services, curricular technologies, and communication.

In addition, the Office of the Dean oversees the academic advising and program implementation of the growing range of important interdisciplinary programs such as Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences; Product Development and Innovation; and Electronic Media, Art, and Communication.
